TALLAHASSEE, FL — The Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus rejects the latest inflammatory and discriminatory rhetoric from Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, who today threatened legal action against U.S. Masters Swimming, for its transgender inclusive policies.
“Faced with litigation against the DeSantis administration’s illegal and dangerous diversion of emergency funds to construct a concentration camp in South Florida, Uthmeier trotted out a toothless threat in an attempt to change the subject, trying to scare Floridians about yet another imaginary transgender threat,” said Kristen Browde, the President of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus.
“While Floridians struggle with unaffordable housing, skyrocketing insurance premiums, a crumbling education system, attacks on reproductive rights, and the outrage of Alligator Auschwitz, the Attorney General is fighting about swim meets. This is not leadership, it’s political theater, an attempt to distract from the real problems facing Floridians.
Browde, an attorney, added that Uthmeier’s threat of legal action is without legal merit, “The State of Florida has no legal standing to sue simply because it disagrees with a private organization’s inclusive values.”
The Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus stands firmly with our transgender neighbors, friends, and family. We urge Floridians to reject this toxic fearmongering and refocus our energy on real solutions that uplift all communities.
