The Florida LGBTQ+ Caucus is calling on Sarasota Republican Party Chair Jack Brill apologize to Sarasota County School Board member Tom Edwards and the entire LGBTQ+ community in Sarasota after Brill’s open display of bigotry and ignorance in suggesting that there is a conflict of interest between Edwards serving both the community as Executive Director of Sarasota’s Project Pride and his service on the school board.
“In claiming that supporting equality amounts to what Brill calls a “radical belief” and “outside the mainstream” Brill exposes himself as someone who neither understands the diversity that makes Florida a great state and as someone out of touch with the reality that all of us are equal,” said Kristen Browde, the President of the Caucus. “Brill should either apologize or resign – and if he doesn’t, the Republican Party should fire him.”
“What’s even more outrageous, Brill claims that working on anti-bullying initiatives is “antithetical to ethical behavior.” In fact that shows that having Republicans like Brill anywhere near children is the real danger.”
